Ouattara's gov't extends suspension of Cote d'Ivoire's cocoa exports
Cote d'Ivoire's government of Alassane Ouattara, one of the two declared presidents, on Tuesday announced the extension of the ban on the country's cocoa and coffee exports until March 15, 2011, a statement from Ouattara's government obtained by Xinhua said on Tuesday.
The statement said the measure does not concern internal commercialization of the products because the government wants "producers of the two products to enjoy the fruits of their labor. "
Cote d'Ivoire is the biggest cocoa producer in the world and the product account for 40 percent of the country's export revenues.
The measure is meant to reduce the financial source of Ouattara's rival Laurent Gbagbo and to force him to leave power.
Ouattara and Gbagbo who were all declared as presidents after the Nov. 28 vote, are engaged in a fierce battle over the control of power.
