Cocoa must remain key, despite oil - IEA
The Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) wants equal attention to be given to cocoa despite the discovery of oil.
With the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities many are worried that the commodity could be neglected.
The institute therefore wants government to take steps to ensure that the commodity remains one of the lead contributors to the economy.
A senior economist at IEA, Dr Kwadwo Tutu said the contribution of cocoa to economy was so significant that every effort must be made not to undermine the commodity.
“With the high output capital ratio for cocoa, significant resources should be injected into it and other agric sub-sectors with the intention of modernising it with a high value addition to those sub-sectors.
